Haris Yanuar is an Indonesian author, journalist and video-maker. He was born in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia in 1977. His mother was from Indonesia and his father from Nigeria. He started to write at a young age, inspired by the writings of Paulo Coelho and Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged
In 1996 he started a career as a video journalist for a private television station in Jakarta. He has been working as a freelance journalist for various media organisations for more than a decade, including BBC Indonesia, BBC World News, CNN International and many others. In 2012 he published his first book, The Big Mistake.
